Inscription on gravestone, which is broken and very difficult read, reads: "Thomas Challis who died 10 April 1816" the remainder is difficult to distinguish but Ann's name does appear. The footstone reads: TC 1816, AC 1837.
William, born 1786 is shown here as a son because he is believed to be but there is no corroboration in parish records. In the History of Sawston by George Challis it is said that he, George, is part of a a large family all descended from Thomas and Ann. George would have known William who was still alive for much of Georges life but this all awaits confirmation. George would not have made much of William because William was St Marys Church. |
